Well Con season is about to start for me... SDCC is this week I will watch the net for all the news, but Aug 6 to 9 is Wiz World Chicago and that is where I will start my con season. I hope to catch up with a bunch of old friends and meet some new folks and get some new stuff for the blog.

Doc is a buddy and trying to make it to Chicago with a Commission drive, if you like Kirby here is a good chance to get a nice commission at a great price. Wizard World Chicago?

Alright folks, I'm just going to lay it out straight. Some of you know that I've been planning for the better part of the year to attend Wizard World Chicago, coming up August 6-9. I found out this morning that I do in fact have a table assignment in Artist Alley--table 3832, as can be seen on Wiz World's site. But as I mentioned a couple days ago, right now I just can't make it.My wife and I are moving to Colorado on July 31. I was originally planning to hang back for a week or two so I could attend Wiz World among other things, but for several reasons I'm going to accompany Carla early. This makes getting back to Chicago a lot more difficult, which is why I initially gave up on trying to go. After discussing it with Carla, we've figured out a way I could possibly go, and you guys can help.The biggest hurdle is a plane ticket. If I can cover that, the rest of the trip pretty much falls into place, especially with the assumption that I'll be able to pick up a dollar or three at the show. So here's a special deal I'll set up for any of you that may be going to the show: If you feel comfortable paying up front, you can get a B&W inked full figure sketch for $25, where you'll be guaranteed on the list before the show. I won't be able to get to them before the show, but you would receive them shortly after, and the shipping is on me. But I don't want you to leave the show empty handed either, so if you stop by my table and I know you're on the list, you will get a free 4.5x6 mugshot, character of your choice. Again, this is only for those who know they are going to be attending Wizard World Chicago, August 6-9.I normally wouldn't make such a big deal of all this, but due to money and our new location, this will probably be the last show I'll make it to for the next year.I've also been getting a lot of questions about whether I'm still open for commissions, and since we're looking at a high cost move, I am definitely open for the foreseeable future. As long as you see the link to my commission rates to your right, I am open. It may be a while before I can get to them because of the crazy month ahead, but I guarantee no more than two months from the time I'm paid. Well I have been really lax and have posted nothing in ages..... bad blog owner. I have not had much in the way of new art in my sketch book, and what I do have has not been scanned. I'll do what I can to fix that.

Final Crisis... well it's over, and the 4th world is dead and gone and now it's the 5th world.... meh. It's still the 4th World, suck it Morrison.

My plan for this years con season it to get more sketches, and buy as many 4th World related comics out of back issues bins as possible.... but only if they are 1$ or less. Why? Why not! Anything with a Jack Kirby character 4th World character is game. So if you see me at a con and see some books point me in that direction.

That's it for now... I'm going to go troll the web for some 4th Worldly art....

Rich Woodall of Johnny Raygun fame did these two yes that's right two gems right here. Just gaze upon them and love them. If you have never read Johnny Raygun you are missing out big time, it's a fun book.

Mister Miracle is in my top 5 favorite characters of all time, and Doc Shaner has made him look pretty slick! I sure am !!! So far so good, I feel the build up and can only wait and see the rebirth of the 4th World as the 5th World !!!

Lets hope this guy makes it through in fine form. Mike Cho should be doing a Kirby book, I'd like to see a kids version of the Forever People with Cho on art !!! Check his site in the Boomtube!!!

I love Jimmy Olsen, every thing about his character is cool. B Clay Moore is doing a great story in Super Man Confidential that has Jimmy in it and it hits all the right beats. When Jack Kirby was doing Super Man's Pal Jimmy Olsen, he created some of the craziest stories I've ever read and I think they are great stuff. If for some reason you have never read them you really should, there is even a 2 issues story revolving around Don Rickles. Come on DON RICKLES!!! It's great. Clay's current collaborator on Hawaiian Dick, Scott Chantler did this amazing sketch of Jimmy.

One thing I loved about Jack Kirby was his ability to create cool looking characters that for the most part were way ahead of the time. This is one of my favorites - Lashina she has a bondage mask type thing going on and carried a whip.!!! This was drawn by Andy B. he did a great job as always. Andy has some work coming up from Wildstorm. More Lashina in a day or two.

This is probably one of my favorite sketches. It's Bernadeth from the Female Furies, a little bit of a lesser know character. J-Bone did this one up nice! J-Bone is insanely talented, he was working on the Spirit making it look like gold!!! Now he's a superstar.

Mister Miracle might be the only survivor of the Death of the New Gods mini series. Lets hope DC does them some justice in a relaunch and keeps them around. There is a crazy rumor that Bat Man will die and become a New God with the rise of the 5th World. Anyway this was one of the first Mr. Miracle sketches done in my sketch book by the very talented Jeremy Haun.

Vykin... yup just Vykin !!!

What you have here is a sketch of Vykin. Back when Jack Kirby originally wrote the Forever People he was Vykin the Black, and now just Vykin. As a kid I never drew the link of him being a black man and being called the black, the sweet innocence of youth. He has always been a favorite of mine, he carried around the Mother Box. As a kid I have about 5 issues of Newgods, Forever People and Mister Miracle all together. I did not have a total picture, or a clear idea of what was going on. I did know that the Mother Box was the end all and be all of rad future tech and Vykin got to rock the Mother Box, so he was the man. !!!

This sketch was done by Dustin Nyguen . He has also done a Supes/Bats New Gods sotry just recently. Story and art are both great!!! Check out his blog he's super talented.

The only thing missing is Kirby crackle !!!

It was meh.....

I re-read it and it was double meh. To me Stralin does not have a solid grip on the characters. They do not seem to be in character, just poor imitations of themselves and the art on many of them does not fit. Mister Miracle and Metron most of all.

Some New Gods died.

I'll keep buying this only because I'm a sucker, but I would recomend it to no one.

Today is a sad day..... Lightray is dead, Issue 48 of Countdown.

I've read the issue and it looks like he is gone. It's to bad he is one of my favorite New Gods, he was like Orion's sidekick quite often. Lightray you will be missed.

Michael Cho is amazing !!! He did a really cool Orion sketch I have yet to scan and post, but he emailed me a couple old 4th World sketches he had done. So I'm posting them here !!! First we have Orion being chased by Paradeamons !!! Orion is probably one of the best known 4th World Characters since he was in he was in Justice league for a short time. Orion was a big player in Cosmic Odyssey and the NewGods book. We have Forager "the Bug" next. He's a favorite of many and was a big part of the Cosmic Odyssey mini series. Mike's depiction of him here is perfect !!!

You can't talk about Darlseid with out Desaad. He's Darkseid's lacky, chief torturer, and all around baddie, and given the chance he would turn on Darkseid. He's always been creepy and the Amazin' Andy Lee captured him really well in this sketch.

I asked Phil Hester to draw someone other than Darksied since I had 3 in the book already, but he really wanted to so I let him. It's a kick ass sketch so who can argue? Phil has some great stuff out there, you should pick up Firebreather which he did with Andy Kuhn, and Phil Hester's Oversight: Collected Short Stories 1990-2005. It's really good and and over looked by many. Phil is a favorite of mine and I really look forward to new work from him.

Darkseid fascinated me when I was a kid. I only had a few New Gods and Forever People comics, so I never understood the entire story I just knew he was the bad guy, and always looking for the Anti-life equation. As a kid that seemed to be pretty nasty.
